A Brooklyn, NY man reportedly died after drinking a Red Bull and the consequence is a $85 million lawsuit

Though the cause of Cory Terry's death is unknown, some suspect that it may have been Red Bull.

Talk about big bucks.

According to Beverage Daily, thirty-three year, Cory Terry from Brooklyn, NY died after drinking a Red Bull following a basketball game. What’s suspicious is that it wasn’t rare for Terry to drink Red Bull; in fact, Beverage Daily called him “an avid Red Bull drinker” and “a healthy and active non-smoker.”

So what was it about that drink that caused Terry to “become light headed” and die? Ilya Novofastovsky, a New York attorney and the one who filed this $85 million lawsuit, claims that Red Bull has “extra stimulants more dangerous than a cup of coffee.”

However, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and health authorities think differently. The FDA says that they “know of no scientific evidence,” and the health authorities confirmed, “Red Bull is safe to consume.”

The lawsuit is digging through past deaths also caused by Red Bull, totaling up to nine from 2004-2012.

We don’t blame Novofastovsky for filing the claim. Although we aren’t sure if the drink took Terry’s life it does make us think twice about swigging back a few Red Bulls when we start yawning at 3 p.m.

11 Astonishing Things You Didn't Know About Red Bull

As one of the highest-grossing beverages in the world, Red Bull is a powerhouse in the realm of energy drinks. But what separates it from the pack is its ability to package itself as an influential lifestyle brand, aligning itself with skydiving, motocross, paragliding, and even EDM festivals.

While you’ve probably used the drink to pull an all-nighter or down some Jagerbombs rather than extreme parasailing, chances are it has given you wings one way or another. From the brand’s humble beginnings in Thailand, to its growth into the music sector, here are 11 interesting facts you might not know about this industry giant.

Red Bull Is Dangerous?

Claim: Red Bull energy drink contains a banned, government-manufactured stimulant linked to the formation of brain tumors.

Ever wondered what’s in a can of Redbull Energy drink? The small print lists a host of ingredients and among them is Glucuronolactone, an artificially manufactured stimulant developed in the early 60’s by the American Government.

Glucuronolactone was first used in the Vietnam conflict to boost morale amongst GI’s who were suffering from stress and fatigue, but was banned after a few years following several deaths and hundreds of cases involving anything from severe migraines to brain tumours in personnel prescribed the stimulant.

That was in 1973 and Glucuronolactone is still banned for commercial consumption in America this day. The bad news is that the substance never found it’s way to Europe in the early days and was therefore never banned by the EU community. An article in this months edition of the British Medical Journal has highlighted a growing number of cases reported by Doctors and Surgeons involving the very same side effects from the 70’s.

All of the patients examined were regular drinkers of RedBull and it is believed that the safety of Glucuronolactone is currently under review in at least three major European countries.

Please pass this on to any RedBull drinkers you know, and next time you get a headache after drinking the stuff, you’ll know why!

[Collected on the Internet, 2012]

France & Denmark have banned it …

Do NOT drink this drink anymore!!
Pay attention read it all

As a public health safety, please pass on this email to all the contacts
in your address book especially those with teenage children?

This drink is SOLD in all the supermarkets IN OUR country and our
children ARE CONSUMING IT ON A TRIAL BASIS, IT can be mortal.

RED BULL was created to stimulate the brains in people who are subjected
to great physical force and in stress coma and never to be consumed like
an innocent drink or soda pop.

RED BULL IS the energizer DRINK that is commercialized world-wide with
its slogan:’It increases endurance awakens the concentration capacity
and the speed of reaction, offers more energy and improves the mood. All
this can be found in a can of RED BULL , the power drink of the
millennium.

‘RED BULL has managed to arrive at almost 100 countries worldwide. The
RED BULL logo is targeted at young people and sportsmen, two attractive
segments that have been captivated by the stimulus that the drink
provides.

It was created by Dietrich Mateschitz, an industrialist of Austrian
origin who discovered the drink by chance. It happened during a business
trip to Hong Kong , when he was working at a factory that manufactured
toothbrushes.

The liquid, based on a formula that contained caffeine and taurine,
caused a rage in that country. Imagine the grand success of this drink
in Europe where the product still did not exist, besides it was a superb
opportunity to become an entrepreneur.
BUT THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS DRINK IS ANOTHER THING:

FRANCE and DENMARK have just prohibited it. They call it the “Cocktail
of Death”,due to its vitamin components mixed with GLUCURONOLACTONE’ , a
highly dangerous chemical, which was developed by the United States
Department of Defense during the sixties to stimulate the moral of the
troops based in VIETNAM, which acted like a hallucinogenic drug that
calmed the stress of the war.

But their effects in the organism were so devastating, that it was
discontinued, because of the high index of cases of migraines, cerebral
tumors and diseases of the liver that was evident in the soldiers who
consumed it.Remember the Denzel Washington movie where ex-Vietnam
soldiers still suffered hallucinations long after the war ended? This
movie was based on fact.

And in spite of it, in the can of RED BULL you can still find as one of
its components: GLUCURONOLACTONE, categorized medically as a stimulant.
But what it does not say on the can of RED BULL is what the consequences
of its consumption are, and that has forced us to place a series of
WARNINGS:

1. It is dangerous to take it if you do not engage in physical exercise
afterwards, since its energizing function accelerates the heart rate and
can cause a sudden attack.

2. You run the risk of undergoing a cerebral hemorrhage, because RED
BULL contains components that dilute the blood so that the heart
utilizes less energy to pump the blood, and thus be able to deliver
physical force with less effort being exerted.

3. It is prohibited to mix RED BULL with alcohol, because the mixture
turns the drink into a “Deadly Bomb” that attacks the liver directly,
causing the affected area never to regenerate anymore.

4. One of the main components of RED BULL is the B12 vitamin, used in
medicine to recover patients who are in a coma from here the
hypertension and the state of excitement which is experienced after
taking it, as if you were in a drunken state.

5. The regular consumption of RED BULL triggers off symptoms in the form
of a series of irreversible nervous and neuronal diseases.

CONCLUSION: It is a drink that should be prohibited in the entire world
as when it is mixed with alcohol it creates a TIME BOMB for the human
body, mainly innocent adolescents and adults with little experience.

Origins: This warning about the popular energy drink began circulating on the Internet in March 2000. There are

two claims to address here: that Glucuronolactone is the evil substance it is portrayed to be in the and that it is one of Red Bull’s ingredients.

Glucuronolactone is a naturally-occurring metabolite, a carbohydrate produced by the human metabolic system. It most certainly is not “an artificially manufactured stimulant developed in the early 60’s by the American Government,” as is claimed in the exhortation to foreswear the drink. Yet a can of Red Bull contains of the substance per can, which has been suggested is a person’s normal daily intake. No proof has yet emerged that this would pose a danger of any sort, but it is a large enough number in and of itself to evoke concern.

Searches of The British Medical Journal fail to turn up the article described in the warning, belying the claim that a piece on this lurking horror recently appeared there. Searches of the Food and Drug Administration’s web site also fail to turn up anything about glucuronolactone, a situation unheard of even in the case of drugs or substances that are merely the subjects of questions raised by consumers, let alone ones that are “banned for commercial consumption in America.” Were glucuronolactone the raging threat to mankind portrayed in the the FDA database would be full to overflowing with articles about it.

The glucuronolactone rumor is not the only one circulated about Red Bull. Other whispers state that the drink is formulated from bull testicles, or that it’s been proved to be wildly addictive, or that its drinkers will test positive in drug tests after downing just half a can, or that it shivers on the verge of being banned throughout Europe. With one partial exception, all of these rumors are

Some countries such as Denmark, Norway, and France initially declined to approve Red Bull for sale within their borders, citing health concerns over the beverage’s high level of caffeine. However, that situation changed in 2008 when the French government acquiesced to EU regulations stating that such a product could not be banned in the absence of proof that it posed a health risk.

Red Bull is the trendy drink of the moment among the dance club set. It is also expensive, and this carbonated nectar is sickly sweet. As for the second of the claims that needed to be addressed, Red Bull does contain glucuronolactone. But as we’ve seen, that ingredient is apparently innocuous.

The beverage was originally concocted in Austria in 1987, and it was marketed as an energy drink that “improves muscle tone,” “increases endurance and “invigorates mind and body.” Whatever wildly optimistic health benefits it laid claim to, the drink’s appeal among young people stems from its rumored legendary energy boosting properties, which it gets from its high caffeine content. The caffeine in one can of Red Bull equals that of one cup of black coffee (which varies in caffeine content from depending on how it is prepared). The drink also contains taurine, a derivative of the sulphur-containing amino acid, cysteine. Taurine is often found as an ingredient in infant milk formulas.

Criticisms of the beverage primarily have to do with the amount of caffeine (equivalent to that found in a typical cup of coffee) and sugar (about per can) contained in the brew. Caffeine is deadly when ingested in a massive dose, but the amount estimated to prove fatal is ten grams, which would require 125 cans of the drink. Disregarding the marketing hype, sugar is no better at giving energy than any other food or drink. The best fluids for rehydration contain just a pinch of salt and sugar, which makes Red Bull a highly unusual sports drink.

Despite whatever conclusions one might draw from the name, Red Bull contains no substances of animal origin. Even the taurine used in the formulation is synthetically produced.

Yet concern remains, fueled by misgivings about the drink’s high concentrations of caffeine, a lurking gut feeling that large amounts of taurine might not be beneficial for folks, and suspicion that Red Bull somehow caused four deaths.

In 1991, the deaths of three people in Sweden who expired after drinking Red Bull were reported. Two of the deceased had mixed the drink with alcohol, the other downed it undiluted during rigorous exercise. No direct proof emerged to demonstrate that Red Bull was at fault in any of those deaths. In 1999, 18-year-old Irish basketball player Ross Cooney drank three Red Bulls before expiring on the court. The coroner attributed the young man’s demise to thickened arteries and sudden adult death syndrome, yet due to guilt by association, his having had three cans of Red Bull just before his life ended was perceived by some as an causal element of his death.

Caffeine is a natural compound in coffee, tea and chocolate, and many manufacturers add caffeine to their energy drinks because it is a stimulant. Red Bulls' website states that caffeine improves mental focus, concentration and alertness.

If you drink Red Bull too close to the time you go to bed, you may have difficulty sleeping because the caffeine may still be stimulating your central nervous system and prevent you from feeling drowsy.

An 8.4 ounce can of Red Bull has 80 milligrams of caffeine, compared to about 35 to 45 milligrams in a 12-ounce can of caffeinated soda, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Caffeine has greater effects on people with higher caffeine sensitivity.

Red Bull settles $13M lawsuit for false advertisement

(PIX11) — Red Bull has agreed to pay more than $13 million to settle a class action lawsuit that claims the energy drink company falsely advertises its products.

The company “settled the lawsuit to avoid the cost of distraction of litigation,” Red Bull said in a statement to PIX11 News. The proposed settlement could potentially include a payout for millions of individuals who purchased at least one Red Bull can in the past 10 years.

Those people who choose to go forward with the lawsuit have the option of receiving a $10 cash reimbursement or two free Red Bull products with an approximate retail value of $15. Red Bull also agrees to cover shipping costs for the reimbursements, Law360 reported.

The lawsuit filed on Jan. 16, 2013 in the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York argues that Red Bull’s advertisements mislead consumers with promises of increased physical and mental performance. The company also markets its drinks as providing more of a boost than coffee does.

The company’s “deceiving” slogan can also be found on several marketing materials including television commercials, athlete endorsements, social media, events and more.

Benjamin Careathers, the main plaintiff in the lawsuit, sought an injunction for the company to stop falsely advertising its products. The Bronx resident, who has been drinking Red Bull since 2002, also wanted restitution of funds that were acquired in unlawful ways.

Despite the settlement, a representative from Red Bull said the company “maintains that its marketing and labeling have always been truthful and accurate, and denies any and all wrongdoing or liability.”

The plaintiffs were represented by Morelli Alters Ratner Law Firm. Qualified individuals who wish to go forward with the lawsuit must submit a Claim Form, which can be found on the Energy Drink Settlement website.

Here&aposs the Personalise step-by-step guide to what energy drinks do, according to research

1. During the first ten minutes of drinking an energy drink, the caffeine starts to be absorbed into your bloodstream, and your body responds by increasing your heart rate and blood pressure.

2. At some point during the first 15-45 minutes, depending how fast you drink it, the levels of caffeine will peak, you&aposll feel alert and find your concentration is improved. This is due to caffeine being a stimulant drug. This is when it&aposs recommended to drink one if you are driving and feel you need to be more alert.

3. 30-50 minutes after you finish your drink and your body has now fully absorbed the caffeine, your liver will often then react by absorbing more sugar. It&aposs during this time that your body has also absorbed most of the sugar initially in the drink as well.

4. An hour in and you&aposll likely be getting the dreaded &apossugar crash&apos – this is often a mix of the sugar levels in your bloodstream dropping as well as the effects of the caffeine dying down.

5. Roughly five to six hours is the half-life of caffeine. This means that it takes this many hours for your body to reduce the caffeine content in your bloodstream by 50 per cent. For women who take an oral contraceptive, this time is doubled.

6. For most people, after 12 hours of finishing the energy drink, all the caffeine will have been removed from your bloodstream, but the exact speed or time will vary from person-to-person.

7. For regular drinkers, you&aposll find that between 12 and 24 hours is the time for when you&aposll start to feel withdrawal symptoms – i.e. the urge for some caffeine. Other effects of this include headaches, irritability and constipation.

8. Studies have shown that up to 12 days is the point in which your body will become tolerant of your daily caffeine dosage. One study found that of those who took a caffeine pill, and others who had a placebo, displayed identical moods, alert levels and energy after 18 days. Simply, people who had the high dosage of caffeine had got used to the caffeine fix.

Coca-Cola To Bring Back Original Recipe Soda Made With Cocaine

ATLANTA, Georgia –

For years, Coca-Cola has been the only company in the world with government licensing to import the coca plant, the same one used in making cocaine, for use in their products. The company literally “de-cocanizies” the plants, and uses natural extracts of them to create the “natural flavors” of the soda. All that changes, though, next month, when Coca-Cola brings back their original recipe, which no longer takes the cocaine out of the coca plant.

“Back in the day, the original recipe for Coca-Cola called for actual cocaine extract, as it was a medicine and not a drink,” said company CEO Reed Sterling. “We plan to bring back that original recipe, and market it as a beverage. In this day and age, kids are looking for the next hot, new beverage. We believe Original Coca-Cola will be that drink.”

Sterling says that the normal price of the beverage, which is approximately $2 on average for a 2-liter, will, of course, drastically increase.

“Unfortunately, with these awesome changes we’re making, a market increase will naturally have to occur,” said Sterling. “The current average price of $2 will be closer to $30 based on the amount of cocaine we will be using per batch, per bottle, but we really feel that our consumers will enjoy the taste of what we’re calling Coca-Caineola.”

The new beverage is expected to hit shelves next month, in direct competition with PepsiCo’s new Pepsi 1893, which is made with real kola extract and natural sugars.

The complaint is believed to be the first of its kind against the company which makes energy drinks.

Lawyer Ilya Novofastovsky told the New York Daily News that there are 'extra stimulants that make it different than a cup of coffee' which are 'more dangerous than Red Bull lets on'.

Red Bull said it did not comment on individual cases but that health authorities across the world have said it is safe to drink.

Mr Terry's relatives blame the energy drink company for the young father's death

His mother has said that Mr Terry, a construction worker from Bedford-Stuyvesant, drank Red Bull all the time.

Novofastovsky said he hoped the lawsuit would raise people's awareness about the potential risks of energy drinks.

In 2008 scientists said just one can of Red Bull could raise the risk of heart attack or a stroke.

The study on university students found that drinking one 250ml can of even the sugar-free version, which has the slogan 'gives you wings', increased the 'stickiness of the blood and raised the risk of life-threatening clots.

Researcher Dr Scott Willoughby said: 'One hour after they drank Red Bull, (their blood systems) were no longer normal.

Dr Willoughby, of the Cardiovascular Research Centre at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, said he was 'alarmed' at the results and would not drink Red Bull himself.

Those with underlying heart or circulatory problems should think twice before buying the caffeine-loaded drink, he said.

Formulated by the marketing director of an Austrian toothpaste company in the 1980s, one can contains 80 mg of caffeine, around the same as a cup of filter coffee, or two cups of instant.

However, cans do carry health warnings advising people not to drink more than two a day.

Mr Terry's cause of death was idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy which meant his heart stopped
